Pestana Casino Park is a five-star hotel on Funchal's seafront, on the Portuguese island of Madeira. The building was designed by the celebrated Brazilian modernist Oscar Niemeyer, and it sits within roughly 15,000 m² of landscaped gardens looking out over Funchal Bay, the marina and the open Atlantic.
It combines a resort feel with a genuinely central address. Spend the morning in the gardens or by the pool, then walk into town for restaurants, shops and the waterfront promenade. The hotel is part of a wider complex that also includes a congress centre and Casino da Madeira, the island's best-known gaming venue.
That makes evenings especially easy: dinner and drinks at the hotel, waterfront bars a short stroll away, and live entertainment or a few hands at the tables right next door. Rooms come with garden, land or side-sea views, alongside family rooms and suites — exact views and inclusions depend on the category you book.
Portugal has no other building by Oscar Niemeyer. The Brazilian architect created it in collaboration with Viana de Lima, a Portuguese architect, and the hotel opened in the 1970s. The casino resort's sweeping curves stand right beside Funchal's cruise port, wrapped in private gardens that lead down toward the bay.
Part of the same resort complex — gaming, dining and shows without leaving the grounds.
The link with Casino da Madeira is what makes this hotel stand out among Funchal's seafront options. The casino occupies its own striking Niemeyer-designed building within the complex, offering a lively alternative to a quiet night in.
Inside you'll find classic table games and electronic gaming, and the venue regularly hosts concerts, shows and nightlife events. What's on depends on the date of your visit, so it pays to check the programme ahead of time.
The casino operates separately from the hotel. Entry rules, ID checks and minimum-age requirements apply — confirm details with the venue before you go.

Avenida do Infante, Funchal — inside the Pestana Casino Park complex, a short walk from the hotel lobby.
Check the latest schedule, dress and access rules, and bring photo ID. A casino Welcome Card may be required on entry.
Opening hours can change without notice. Gambling is for adults of legal age only (18+). Please play responsibly and set limits before you start.
First-time visitors need a Welcome Card, the casino's own loyalty card, which costs nothing and is required for entry. Practical extras include a cloakroom, an ATM, free Wi-Fi and a taxi rank, and drivers will find a car park with space for 60 cars. The casino closes on 24 and 25 December, and nobody under 18 is admitted.
You do not have to gamble to enjoy a stay here. The resort has a tennis court, a library, shops and live music, and the Copacabana nightclub inside the complex keeps the evening going after dinner. For many guests at this casino resort, the gaming floor is simply one option among several on a night out.
An outdoor pool looks across the gardens to the ocean, and there's an indoor heated pool, sauna, Turkish bath, gym and treatment rooms. Some services need booking or cost extra.
Restaurants and bars make the most of the bay views — from a slow breakfast to sundowners and a relaxed dinner on site.
Walk to the marina, the seafront promenade and the city centre. The Old Town, local markets and Madeira's famous gardens are all easy to reach.
A slow day might start with a swim in the infinity pool facing the Atlantic before moving indoors to the heated pool and its water jets. The Magic SPA has its own treatment menu, and the relaxation area brings together a jacuzzi, sauna and Turkish bath. For a quieter spot, the rooftop pool is open only to guests aged 16 and over.
At this casino resort, Panorâmico is a bright glass and iron dining room on the garden floor, where themed buffets change daily and gala dinners mark special dates. Guests are asked to dress with some care for dinner there, which gives evenings a slightly more formal feel. For something more casual, Dockside serves an à la carte lunch on its marina terrace, and ON offers Portuguese and international plates beside the pool.

Rooms at the casino resort are ready from 3:00 pm, and check-out is until 12:00 pm. On-site parking is available for a fee, although you may rarely need a car, since the city centre is about five minutes away on foot. From Madeira Airport, roughly 23 km away, the drive takes around 25 minutes.
Distances are approximate and taken from the property record.
Parque de Santa Catarina and Quinta Vigia are close neighbours of the casino resort, and the CR7 Museum, which displays the trophies Cristiano Ronaldo has won, is nearby too. Further into the centre, Funchal Cathedral is classified as a National Monument, and the Farmers' Market, opened in 1940, fills its Estado Novo era building with a lively, colourful atmosphere.
Prices, taxes, deposits and cancellation terms are set by the hotel or your booking provider.
Confirm accessibility, room layout and any must-have facilities for your exact dates.
Ask about check-in times, ID requirements, parking and what happens if you arrive late.
Funchal's calendar gives good reasons to choose your dates carefully. The Flower Festival welcomes spring with flower carpets and a parade, June brings fireworks set to music during the Atlantic Festival, and nearby Câmara de Lobos marks the end of the grape harvest with folklore and food. Madeira's New Year celebrations are known worldwide, so the end of December is an especially sought-after time for a casino resort break.
